The annual Mt Wellington Challenge is into its 13th year and has become an ‘iconic’ feature on the cycling calendar. Race the clock, beat your personal best, chase the King of the Mountain or simply make it to the pinnacle. Challenge yourself to ride Australia’s toughest time trial.
The Mt Wellington Challenge is not just an event for hard core cyclists on road bikes. The MWC is a challenge event. We encourage anyone with a bike and a reasonable level of fitness that wants to step outside their comfort zone to have a go.
Collins SBA is the proud coordinator and lead supporter of this iconic event. Collins SBA is an award winning Tasmanian owned and operated professional advisory business providing integrated accounting, personal wealth management, risk protection and lending services to business owners and individuals with complexity. At Collins SBA we work hard to help our clients achieve a remarkable future through building, protecting and managing their wealth. Supporting cycling through the Mt Wellington Challenge is our way of putting back into the community. And what better way to do this than to encourage people to get on a bike, get fit, challenge themselves and support a worthy cause at the same time.
What’s in it for you?
Riding Australia’s toughest time trial and simply making it to the Pinnacle is a feat you will be proud of no matter how long it takes you. Most importantly, your participation will add to the money that we raise for Variety TAS – The Children’s Charity.
Children growing up with disability, serious illness or disadvantage need help from a special charity.
That charity is Variety. Mt Wellington Challenge is a proud supporter of Variety and all net proceeds from the event will go to them. Net proceeds means all entry fees less administration costs (all organisers are volunteers).
Our goal is to ensure the event is a positive and safe experience for all participants. Each participant will receive;
- A well organised and staffed event
- All participants will be individually timed
- Road closure by Tasmania Police for safety (Pillinger Drive to the summit only NOT Huon Road)
- St John’s Ambulance presence
- BBQ, drinks and coffee available for purchase by all
- MWC is a Variety Children’s Charity event.
Every rider who completes the Mt Wellington Challenge, regardless of their individual time, can be proud of themselves. On completion at the pinnacle, participants are invited to ride back to the start at Longley for a BBQ lunch to celebrate the achievement.
We believe money raised from MWC is best given to Variety so they can spend it on kids with real needs rather than us cyclists who tend to have lots of bling already.
In 2008 Richie Porte – Tasmania’s super star of cycling presently riding for Team BMC, then riding for Team Praties, set a blistering pace that has never been beaten – 49mins & 51secs at an average speed of 25.43 km/h;
Even after riding all over Europe, Mt Wellington is still one of the hardest climbs I have done, especially as a time trial. – Richie Porte
